KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) celebrated its 30th anniversary at its premises here yesterday.

In honour of this, its Mayor, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said that they have set up 11 new Friendly Neighbourhoods which totalled up to 40 that has been established within DBKU’s administration.

The 11 new areas are Taman Samariang Aman & Lake Side, Kampung Muda Hashim, Kampung No. 5, Bukit Tuan, Kampung Bintawa (combination of Kampung Bintawa Ulu, Tengah, and Hilir), Kampung Bintangor Kecil, Kampung Gobeilt, Kampung Semariang Jaya Fasa 2, Kampung Semariang Batu Fasa 3, Kampung Bako Hulu, and Darul Hana (combination of Kampung Panglima Seman, Pulo, and Semarang).

“With this, I hope that our objective to strengthen the bonds among the community can be achieved.

“May we will be able to work together as well as help each other through this Friendly Neighbourhood Programme,” he said.

Meanwhile, he added that throughout the past 30 years, DBKU has endured situations that were both good and bad as well as achieved many accomplishments together.

“Since 1994, DBKU has managed to earn 157 awards whereby the first one was earned in 1994, which was the national-level ‘Local Authorities Quality Award’.

“We did not stop there and went on to win more awards such as the ‘International Awards for Liveable Communities 2012 (LIVCOM)’ in 2012 and the ‘Excellence Award Green City, Malaysia Landscape Architecture Award (MLAA)’ in 2013.

“We are proud with every achievement we have earned and this is the result of a high level of commitment and teamwork among DBKU staff members together with the management.

“It’s also thanks to the people of Kuching who have always given us their unwavering support and I urge them to continue doing so in order to help us do the best for Kuching,” he said.

The event also saw the presentation of ranks (‘Anugerah Pemakaian Pangkat’) to four officers and uniformed personnel working in the Safety Unit.

In addition to that, 33 officers and staff members also received recognition for working with DBKU for 25 years. There was also a cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate DBKU’s 30th anniversary.
