KUCHING: Sarawak Golf Association (SGA) had recently announced that next year’s 21st Sarawak International Junior Golf Championship is to be held at Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC).

This was revealed by SGA president, Hoan Kee Hock during the closing and prize presentation ceremony of this year’s event which was recently held at the club.

According to DGCC’s general manager, Roslan Mohd Salleh the hosting of next year’s junior event is a success with over 100 young golfers from Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia had competed.

“So far, we have received only positive feedbacks from the young participants who are more than happy to play on the same golf course which was used during this year’s Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour championships,” he said.

DGCC had also garnered the support from Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), SGA, Malaysia Golf Association (MGA) and Professional Golf Malaysia (PGM) in becoming host for the list of international events next year.

‘We want them to enjoy the experience of playing at DGCC and overcoming the most challenging golf course in Sarawak.’

“We hope to woo more golfers from overseas to come over to Sarawak for their golf holidays, especially during the coming Visit Sarawak Year 2019,” he added.

For the junior level golf tournaments, the club had hosted the Sarawak Junior Open Masters Championship 2018 on March 22–23  this year and the recent 20th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup International Golf Championship 2018 held on Nov 27 29.

“We want them to enjoy the experience of playing at DGCC and overcoming the most challenging golf course in Sarawak.”

According to Roslan, both local young golfers and those from overseas were given good exposure in competing at DGCC’s international standard golf course which this year alone had played host to over 300 professional golfers worldwide.

“We want more junior golfers to play at our golf course because many professionals who played here have given their stamps of approval. At the same time, we want them to enjoy the experience of playing at DGCC and overcoming the most challenging golf course in Sarawak,” Roslan said.

Meanwhile, the recent November edition of the DGCC-KKB Monthly Escalation Medal (MEM) was won by Choo Kueh Fong and Azman Hamdan in the Nett and Gross category respectively.
