KUCHING: The Budget 2019 presented on Friday did not give any special allocation for longhouse in the state, said Member of Parliament for Kapit Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said during the former federal government, they had provided a special allocation to the longhouses especially to the rural Dayak people living in the villages.

“When it comes to RM4.4 billion, it may sound a large amount but as a Sarawakian we know what needs are incomplete and what projects need to be implemented and projects that have already begun.

“Among that is missing that I see today is that no special allocation to the longhouse as was channelled by the previous federal government,” he said when met by reporters after the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council meeting at PBb headquarters Jalan Bako here, on Saturday.

Nanta said he was confident that there is no special allocation for the longhouses as so far the State Government has yet to receive the list of projects under the RM4.4 billion allocation allocated to Sarawak as a whole.

He also added that he was quite disappointed with the Budget 2019 as there was no budget for the upgrading of former logging roads in Sarawak.

“The former federal government has plans and allocations for the upgrading of ex logging roads but has yet to be implemented.

“These projects need to be in rural areas where we cannot afford to build according to the specification of R1 or R1 modified,” he said.

Nanta explained that former logging roads in rural areas can be used but they need to be upgraded so that they can connect roads to remote area of longhouses in the interior.
