MIRI: A man, in his 40s, was suddenly bitten on his right leg by a stray dog behind a shophouse at Pujut 7 here on Saturday at about 7.30pm.

The incident happened while the man was collecting boxes which had been discarded there for recycling.

According to a source, the man was attacked by the dog from behind. He had to use his motorcycle helmet to hit the dog before it let go of his leg.

Members of the Pujut Community Committee patrol, who came across the injured man, took him to the Miri Hospital for treatment.

There, the man was vaccinated against rabies and closely monitored by the hospital staff to ensure he was not bitten by a rabies-infected dog.

So far, no rabies cases have been reported in Miri.
