DPM: No application received from former UMNO leaders

PUTRAJAYA: None of the UMNO leaders who had resigned from the party have joined Pakatan Harapan (PH) so far, said PH president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. The Deputy Prime Minister also said PH had yet to call for a meeting to scrutinise whether to accept or reject the former UMNO leaders who had left the party.

“We have not received the application (from former UMNO leaders to join PH),” she told reporters when asked to comment on the move by two UMNO leaders who had left the party.

On Tuesday, former International Trade and Industry Minister who is also Jeli Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed announced that he was leaving UMNO while yesterday, former Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman followed suit.

Earlier, Dr Wan Azizah who is also the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development at tended the 2018 Nat ional Women’s Day celebration here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Wanita DAP vice head Hannah Yeoh described the move by political leaders leaving and joining the party as normal when the agenda and direction of the party had changed.

“The question now is when KJ (Khairy Jamaluddin) will leave (the party)? He had been seen to be a strong critic.

“In addition, when the opposition had walked out of Parliament (last July), the only persons left in the Dewan were Anifah and Khairy. We now see that the direction has changed,” said the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Communi ty Development . – Bernama
