Drug addict gets death for killing ex-girlfriend

By Liong Chai Ling MIRI: A drug addict was found guilty of killing his former girlfriend two years ago and was sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court here, yesterday. Judicial Commissioner Dr Alwi Wahab meted the sentence after finding the defence failing to cast any reasonable doubt against the accused, Nasir Ramli, 30, at the end of the trial. According to the charge sheet, Nasir was charged with killing Norfisa Othman, 25, on June 5, 2016, between 11pm and 1am at Jalan Dato Permaisuri 2C Permyjaya here. He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death sentence upon conviction. On the day of the incident, Norfisa was taken to Miri Hospital at about 1am by a married couple. However, Norfisa succumbed to her injuries. A post-mortem report on the victim confirmed that her death was caused by a hard knock to her head with a blunt object which resulted in serious injury. The accused hid after the victim died before the police managed to arrest him in a house at Kampung Semariang, Petra Jaya, Kuching on 24 August, 2016. During the arrest, Nasir was in a high state believed to be due to the influence of drugs. The Deputy Public Prosecutor was Mohd Fuad Abdul Aziz while Nasir was represented by lawyer Robert Ayu.
