SIBU: Police believe that they have scored a major success in putting a brake in the momentum of drug trafficking network in this town with the arrest of 16 suspects during a house raid two days ago.

The raid was made on a house used as a centre of supplying drugs at Jalan Makmur here.

Sibu Police chief ACP Saiful Bahri Abdullah said on September 6, a police team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Sarawak Police Headquarters (IPK) conducted a raid on the house around 11.30am.

According to him, the police have long been monitoring the house with a lot of information received saying that the house was used as a centre of drug supply in the town.

“In the raid, four men and four women aged 25 to 46 years old were arrested with urine test results on all the suspects were all found to be drug positive. These are the main suspects.

“Also seized during the raid was drugs suspected of ‘ketamine’ type weighing about 126 grammes and ‘syabu’ weighing of about 11.95 gramme with an estimated black market value of RM47,880,” he explained.

“The suspects who mostly are unemployed are believed to use the house as a place to buy and take drugs.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” the police chief explained when speaking to reporters at a press conference held at Sibu Police Headquarter yesterday.

He added police also arrested and detained eight others who came to the house to buy drugs.

“The main suspect of the drug trafficking case is a 44-year-old male who is the tenant of the house.”

“The suspect is also currently given restrictions under Section 7 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs (ADB) (LLPK) 1985. He has been arrested twice under the same offence,” Saiful said.

“With the arrest, the suspect has been found to have violated the restrictions conditions in restriction order and can be taken action under Section 7 (3) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1985 for violating restriction conditions,” he stressed.
