KUCHING:  Scores of children attending a function had an early Raya cheer yesterday as they each received gift, namely a green packet containing cash.

The early Raya joy was courtesy of the Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah who officiated at the event in conjunction with her visit to Pendidikan Nur Murni (PKPNM) establishment at Jalan Field Force, Batu Kawa, here yesterday.

Fatimah said the Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development will always fight for the best interest of children.

Hence, children should not be stripped off and neglected from their basic necessities such as food, drinks, shelter, education and medical supervision.

They should also be protected from any negligence, cruelty and exploitation and deserved to be loved and cared for.

“That is what establishments like Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Nur Murni (PKPNM) and other NGOs such as PERYATIM and also children shelter under the government are caring for.

“That is why the Chief Minister has added ‘Childhood Development’ under the ministry to give focus to the matter,” said Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

She made the comment while chairing a press conference after her visit to PKPNM.

She added children who are neglected may affect their intellectual, social and emotional development.

After giving a short speech to the residents of PKPNM, Fatimah proceeded to handover a personal Zakat donation to the Chairwoman of PKPNM, Noriani Bakiri.
