SRI AMAN: Firefighters from the Sri Aman Fire Station rushed to Temudok GOF Camp near here yesterday after receiving a report of a mercury spill.

A spokesman said the incident happened at Room 13, 1st Floor of Cempaka Flat at the GOD Temudok Camp at 11.05am. “After we receiving the distress call we immediately dispatched four firefighter and four volunteers to the scene.

“The cleaning operation led by PB Mohd Ariffin Abdullah started at 11.10am and lasted for 27 minutes,” the spokesman said. During the operation the firemen broadcast sulfur powder on the racks so that the spill mercury can be easily collected.

“To ensure that the spill mercury is safe for the flat residents we also used bleach to clean the area.

“The operation by the eight personnel ended when they returned to the station at 11.38am,” he said.
