MUKAH: A 73-year-old man was killed in a road accident that occurred at Kilometre 27 of Jalan Kuala Balingian/Kuala Tatau on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Bol Tani of Rumah Meling, Sg Seruan Kecil, Balingian, died on the spot what is believed to be a hit and run. Local police officers received a report from members of the public at 7.40am on Sunday.

Based on the condition of the remains, it was believed that the hit and run occurred on Saturday evening. His body was found on the left side of the road heading towards Kuala Balingian next to his badly damaged Honda motorcycle. His remains were later sent to Mukah District Hospital for a post mortem.

Initial investigation found a heavy brake mark, believed to come from a large, heavy vehicle. However, the police are still in the dark regarding the vehicle’s registration number as they have yet to receive any reports.

The police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987. Those who have information of the crime are urged to contact Investigation Officer, Inspector Anselm of Mukah District Police Headquarters at 013-2268447 or the nearest police station.
