PUTRAJAYA: The enculturation of integrity will help shape ‘hero’ teachers’ or exemplary models among the Education Ministry staff, said its minister Dr Maszlee Malik.

He said the staff, either in the administrative group, educators and academics, should always strive to make integrity a culture in their respective organisations.

“Be the hero teachers in your organisations so that you become an exemplary model to others,” the minister said at the Education Ministry’s Integrity Day celebration yesterday. His speech was read out by his deputy Teo Nie Ching.

Mazlee said several initiatives were being implemented to ensure that integrity would form the basis of national education, including the cooperation between the ministry and the Malaysian Integrity Institute to prepare a Pre-School Integrity module to be used by all pre-schools nationwide and the setting up of the Council of Integrity Officers at public institutions of higher learning.

Maszlee also urged ministry staff to use social media prudently when educating and disseminating knowledge rather than creating confusion, chaos and conflict and lies.

“As civil servants and educators, remember that you are always being watched by the society and your students. Be of noble character and high integrity,” he said.

Teo later presented awards to four Education Ministry staff for their excellence performance in terms of integrity and discipline and for demonstrating positive values.

The Role Model for Integrity awards were given to Dr Ibrahim Mohamed Zin under the Management and Professional Category (Educational Sector), Paridah Ali (Executive Group Category), J. Gobbi Nathan for the Management and Professional Category (Higher Education Sector) and Foziman Rosman (Executive Group Category). -Bernama
