KUCHING: No injuries and human casualties were reported after a packaging room caught fire at a factory at Mile 12 Jalan Tanjung Kidurong in Bintulu around 10.30am yesterday.

The fire was promptly put out by the factory’s Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was alerted about the incident at 10.40am.

Two fire engines and an EMRS vehicle with 12 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, located about 18km from the fire station. Two fire fighting teams in two fire engines from Tanjung Kidurong Port and Samalaju fire station were also dispatched to the scene to provide assistance.

On arrival at the scene at 11.00am, the fire has already been put out by the factory’s emergency response team using a fire extinguisher.

It was believed that the fire might be caused by a faulty fluorescent fitting. About 10 per cent of the room was damaged.

The whole operation ended at 11.46am.
