KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) has taken a drastic action by dropping all import players. FAS president Dato Posa Majais stressed that the decision was taken because Sarawak would like to use 100 percent of the local players next season.

The seven imports dropped were Mohd Shahril Sa’ari (goalkeeper), Ronny Harun (defender), Ramesh Laiban Huat (defender), Mateo Roskam (striker) Mohamad Sahil Suhaimi (striker), Milos Raickovic (playmaker) and Demerson Bruno Costa (defender).

“We have decided to use the services of local players so there’s no more place for import signings next season,” added Posa.

“I believe the players to be listed later will be able to take on the challenge,” he said. “If I can take on the leadership role of FAS, I also want the local players to take the responsibility when they are given the opportunity to play back next season,” Posa said.

“It is a wise decision from the FAS in order to reduce costs. “Sarawak actually has local talents that need to be highlighted. So in this regard, do not be in a hurry to achieve immediate success.

“Give the coach a chance (Pengiran Bala) to plan strategies,” said the FAS president.

Pengiran, who is currently acting head coach of Sarawak squad, is expected to be ‘promoted’ as Sarawak head of coach next season.

He said his selection was accurate as he had played with the Ngap Sayot 1988 team which were lined up by 100 percent of local players.
