Farewell parade for retired CP Amer

KUCHING:  Sarawak Police Commissioner (CP) Dato’ Sri Amer Bin Haji Awal who retired yesterday and wife Datin Sri Mastura Binti Abd Karim were given a formal ‘send off’ during a farewell parade held at the Parade Ground of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters, Jalan Badruddin here.

The farewell parade was held in conjunction with his retirement yesterday after serving as Sarawak Police Commissioner for one year and two days. He started his service as Sarawak Commissioner of Police on 17 July 2017.

Newly appointed Acting Sarawak Commissioner of Police, DCP Dato’ Pahlawan Mohd Dzuraidi Bin Ibrahim and wife Datin Hajah Nuraidah Binti Abu Kassim were present.

The event was also attended by senior police officers, low rank officers and Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters civilian officers and also all the district police chiefs and PERKEP members.

After the national anthem and state anthem were sung, there were also brassband performances by PDRM Brassband, a poetry declamation and tarian ngajat pahlwan (warrior dance) by the Borneo Cultural Troupe, and the PDRM Brassband performing the popular Iban number ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis’, which is also Amer’s  favourite.

After Amer was given a salute, police officers and personnel made a line-up from Parade Ground towards the guard house.

Amer and wife Mastura then mounted an open vehicle which was pulled by senior police officers towards the guard house.

At the guardhouse, Amer signed the visitors’ book before and he and his wife left the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters at Jalan Badruddin in a car.
