MIRI: One died while two survived after a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle they were travelling in went out of control and crashed at Miri Bypass yesterday afternoon. The survivors were a woman and a teenage boy. According to sources, in the 12.40 pm incident the 4WD vehicle had flipped multiple times before it landed on its side by the roadside.

The deceased has been identified as the driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old Chong Chun Fah. Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah when confirming the incident yesterday said Chong’s wife and his 14-year-old son survived the crash.

Prior to the fatal crash, the family of three was heading towards E-Mart Tudan from Taman Tunku. Due to the impact of the crash, the driver was thrown out off the vehicle and died at the scene due to severe injuries.

A team of firemen from Lopeng Fire Station immediately rushed to the scene to help extricate the other two victims who survived the crash. An ambulance arrived at the scene to take the victims to Miri Hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
