Fatimah’s ministry to work with federal counterpart

MIRI: Sarawak Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development will work together with its federal counterpart.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah stated this yesterday after handing over aid to 200 recipients at the Dynasty Hotel Miri compound during the “Sejambak Kasih Hari Gawai and Hari Raya Aidilfitri” programme.

She said the ministry would like to work together with its federal counterpart for the wellbeing of target group (the needy and disadvantaged).

Earlier on, she congratulated Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on the latter’s appointment as the federal Minister of Women and Family Development.

Fatimah said she would pay a courtesy call on Wan Azizah soon.

“We would like to know her focus and direction and  also share with her the state’s focus in helping the needy group.” 

Fatimah added that at the state level, the ministry was always adhering to the policy of “welfare is  colour blind”.

“Meaning to say, regardless of  religious, racial or political differences, we help all those who are poor and disadvantaged.”

During the “Sejambak Kasih Hari Gawai and Hari Raya Aidilfitri” programme, all 200 recipients received  RM100 cash and a hamper one each. It was learnt that from January to March this year, the State Welfare Department had disbursed a total  of RM52,446,450.00 to 56,464 recipients statewide.

The cash assistance under the “Sejambak Kasih” programme is given to eligible recipients in celebration of festive occasions like the Chinese New Year, Christmas and the upcoming  Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Also present yesterday were the Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development, Rosey Yunus, Telang Usan State Assemblyman, Dennis Ngau and Dynasty Hotel’s Managing Director, Tony Pui.
