KUCHING: Fiollaa Redup last Saturday beat 15 finalists to emerge winner of Miss Grand Malaysia- State of Sarawak 2017.
The 24-year-old Bidayuh girl will represent Sarawak in Miss Grand Malaysia 2017 to be held in Kuala Lumpur later this year.
“I am surprised that I can win this pageant as the other contestants are also strong and beautiful,” Fiollaa told the press.
She went home with jewellery worth RM30,000 sponsored by Ceres Jewellery Malaysia, aesthetic service and products valued at RM5,000 sponsored by Borneo Medispa and Academic Scientifique de Beaute, Paris, RM3,000 cash, a trophy, a crown, a sash and a bouquet.
Fiollaa also won two subsidiary titles, namely, Miss Popular and Miss Natural Beauty.
The first runner-up and Miss Grand Intercontinental Sarawak was Bibiana Green. The 18-year-old Bidayuh girl will represent Sarawak in Miss Grand Intercontinental Malaysia.
Bibiana went home with RM2,000 cash, a trophy, a crown, a sash and a bouquet.
She also won two subsidiary titles, namely, Best in Evening Gown and Best in National Costume.
The event, held at Penview Convention Centre, Demak, was graced by Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.
Meanwhile, the second runner-up was Brenda Yeo, 21, of mixed Chinese, Iban and Indian parentage.
Brenda brought home RM1,000 cash, a trophy, a crown, a sash and a bouquet.
She also won the Miss Talent and Miss Allunique Indiba.
The third, fourth and fifth runner-ups were Brandy Mary Duncan, Phrisilla Mujian Peter and Lysandra Gabriel respectively.
Meanwhile, the winners of the other subsidiary titles are as follows: Miss Cultural and Miss Beautiful Body won by Phrisilla Mujian Peter, Miss Personality won by Vivian Kui Li Ming, Miss Allunique Intraceuticals won by Buri Anna and Miss Photogenic won by Ratnawati Lucas.
The competition under Miss Grand International Malaysia is the fifth biggest pageant competition after Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth.
Fatimah, in her speech, said beauty pageants such as Miss Grand Sarawak 2017 were platforms for young Sarawakian women to discover and develop their unique potential.
“Besides building confidence and self esteem, they allow them to showcase their talents and are avenues to nurture public speaking, communication and critical thinking skills.”
Also present at the event was Minister of Rural Electricity and Water Supply, Datuk Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
