MIRI: A warehouse storing various groceries was destroyed in a fire at Piasau Industrial Estate in Miri early yesterday morning. In the incident, the fire destroyed 90 per cent of the two-storey building of permanent structure type.
Also destroyed were two vehicles parked in the warehouse.
Miri Zone Fire and Rescue Department head, Law Poh Kiong said his side received an emergency call on the incident at 4.51am. He said two firefighters from Lopeng and Miri Fire and Rescue Station involving 16 personnel were deployed to the scene.
“The fire involved a warehouse owned by Soon Hing Trading which stores groceries. “The extinguishing operation and firefighters managed to control the fire from spreading to the adjacent ice factory,” Law said. He said the fire was fully under control at 7.15am and no casualties were involved in the incident. “The causes and amount of losses are still under investigation,” he said.
