BINTULU: A fire razed 36 of the 63 units of a longhouse in Jalan Sebauh Pandan here on Sunday night, leaving 252 occupants homeless.

Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba) chief, Mohd Meramit said the longhouse (Rumah Nyipak) was 70 percent burned and no casualties were reported in the incident. “We received a distress call at 9.32pm.

The fire is believed to have started at the ninth unit of the longhouse,” he said here yesterday. The cause of the fire and damage were still under investigation headed by Investigating Officer, Irwin Abidin. The 63-door longhouse has 406 occupants.

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Sebauh Health Clinic also assisted the Bomba in the incident.
