MUKAH: Sacred Heart Chapel of Kpg Jebungan and Tegak Mukah is believed to be the first chapel in this division to be fully air-conditioned.

The cool effect of the air conditioners was experienced for the first time by members of the chapel during the Sacred Heart Day celebration held in the chapel last Friday.

In conjunction with the celebration, a mass was held at the chapel celebrated by Sts Peter Paul Church Rector, Rev. Fr. Joseph Sebastian.

In his welcoming speech at the end of the mass, the Chapel Chairman, Alexander Hanipah pointed out that the event was possible following a financial grant from the government given through the local people’s representative, recently.

Without mentioning the name of the people’s representative, he said the grant of RM30,000 was used to buy and install the air conditioners.

“I would like to thank the government for the grant and for making it possible to have the air conditioners installed in our chapel. Of course we still need financial assistance to build a store and kitchen because we also have Sunday school for our children,” he said.

In his speech at the fellowship held at an open hall nearby, Fr Joseph considered it a blessing for Catholics in the area as their chapel has physically transformed from a wooden to a concrete one.

“I should say that it has been a blessing for Catholics in these two villagers. I remember the old chapel on the river bank was a bit shaky during my first attachment to Mukah in the 1990s. But now, you are not only having a beautiful and concrete chapel but also a fully air-conditioned one,” he said.

Among the activities held during the fellowship, besides enjoying the dinner were the cutting of the anniversary cake, karaoke and poco-poco dance.

Also present were chairman of Sts Peter and Paul Pastoral Parish Council, Dominic Aseng Edal, Penghulu Kudum Dillah and local community leaders.
