BALINGIAN: The first solar-powered clean water in Sarawak was installed in this sub-district on Wednesday morning.

The second such project in Malaysia after Puching in Selangor, it was installed at Rumah Renang Ak Nayor, Sungai Kelapuhan by a team from Techkem Water Malaysia.

The project was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and was headed by its project manager, Dr Chew and solar installation specialist, Christ, an Australian.

The installation was witnessed by Balingian State Constituency Special Officer, Che Ghazali Arbi, who represented Balingian Assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi.

Also present at the historical moment were Mukah Parliamentary Special Affairs (JASA Mukah) Officer, Hafizzul Abdul Halim, JASA Balingian Senior Field Officer, Junaidi Nor, Techkem Managing Director, James Ang and other members of the team from Techkem.

Junaidi explained that the project was to supply clean water from solar energy and the process was direct to the first water tank through the Coracel system which acts as a water processor. The water becomes drinkable soon after it flows out from the second tank.

“This kind of technology has been mostly used in the rural areas in Australia before it is brought to Malaysia.  “Being the first to use this technology in Sarawak, Rh Renang longhouse now enjoys electricity supply with a capacity of 300 watts via this solar energy,” said Junaidi.

Meanwhile Renang, the longhouse chief, thanked the Balingian Assemblyman for choosing his longhouse for the very meaningful project.

“With the project being installed at our longhouse, we are now able to enjoy clean water supply and above all, the electricity supply to light us up,” he said.
