MIRI: Five people cheated death when the four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a seven-metre deep ravine at Km14 Bintulu-Miri Coastal Road yesterday afternoon.

It was certainly a terrifying moment for all of them but they were fortunate to have survived and sustained minor injuries. All were rushed to Bintulu Hospital for medical treatment.

A fire engine from the Samalaju fire station with seven firemen led by Azwanizam Abdullah rushed to the scene after responding to the emergency call on the incident at 2.10pm.

It was learnt that the victims were heading for Miri from Bintulu when the incident occurred.  Four of the victims reportedly managed to crawl out of  the vehicle by themselves after it plunged into the deep ravine while the fifth victim was rescued by the Samalaju firemen.
