‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign launched

SARATOK: Saratok Member of Parliament and Krian State Assemblyman, Ali Biju has urged Sarawakians to increase their patriotism and love for the nation in line with this year’s National Day theme ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ (Love Our Malaysia). He made the call at the Launching of the “Fly the Jalur Gemilang (national flag)” campaign for Sri Aman and Betong Divisions at Rumah Rosita Dugat, Nanga Budu yesterday.

He also encouraged the people of the state to welcome the National Day. Ali pointed out that the Jalur Gemilang was a symbol that showed that all the people of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak were united in Malaysia.

“This Jalur Gemilang shows us that we are together as one in Malaysia,” he added. The campaign is an annual programme of the Department of Information Malaysia (JAPEN) aimed at nurturing the spirit of patriotism among the people. JAPEN Sri Aman and Betong Divisions have taken the initiative to launch the campaign at Rosita Dugat House, Saratok to give exposure to the community there.

Among the activities held were the sewing of the Jalur Gemilang by various communities – Iban, Malay and Chinese, a Jalur Gemilang colouring competition for seniors, patriotic gymnastics and patriotic bidkaraoke competitions. Also present were Sri Aman and Betong Information Officers, Roszilawati Nor Aziz, Saratok District Police Chief, DSP Mordani Tanin, Sri Aman District Information Officer, Muhammad Alwi, Saratok Information Officer, Florance Sebastian Unting, representatives of the heads of government departments and community leaders.
