KUCHING: Statewide high impact rural intervention projects will be taken to ensure people in the rural areas receive better basic infrastructure and utilities.

Minister for Infrastructure Development and Transportation Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, said among the projects for this year included the repairing and upgrading works on 33 dilapidated rural schools and 29 rural health clinics.

“15 Rural Clinic Visiting Doctor (RCDV) team will also be equipped with medical equipment and transportation worth RM2.17 million,” said Masing when delivering his winding up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting, at the august House, in Petra Jaya, yesterday.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said the Cluster-clinic system at the Sungai Asap Health Clinic will also be equipped with medical equipment worth RM700,000.

“Five Sarawak Alternative Water Supply Scheme (SAWAS) projects, 54 projects under Compipe and Sub main programme, two projects under retrofit of treatment plants, reservoirs porgramme and renewal or replacement of old pipeline will be implemented,” said the Baleh Assemblyman.

Under the State and Federal Funding, Masing said electricity connection to 7,871 rural households through Rural Electrification Scheme (RES), Hybrid Schemes and Sarawak Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES) will be done.

He also said 62 flood mitigation projects are to be conducted.
