Football tournament final attracts 500 spectators

KABONG: About 500 football fans and enthusiasts witnessed the final of the Kabong Women’s Football Championship, namely the Meryani Haji Yasin Cup 2017 held at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abang Leman football field, here yesterday afternoon.

It was certainly a historic moment for the AK 40 women football team when they emerged champions after prevailing over their opponents the Kabong Girls team with a 2-1 win in the dramatic final of the first edition of this competition.

The AK 40 team players were forced to work hard before completing their victorious moment with a meaningful championship.

As champions, they took home a cash prize of RM2,000, championship challenge trophy, accompanying trophy and medals while the Kabong Girls team received a trophy, medals and RM1,500 cash prize as runners-up.

Sri Kandi Tanjung’s won the third place after defeating Rojak FC team and won  a cash prize of RM1,000, a trophy and medals while Rojak FC team took home a cash prize of RM500, a trophy and medals for fourth placing.

Meryani Haji Yasin was given the honour to give away the prizes accompanied by her

husband Kabong State Assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir.

In his closing speech, Chee said the talented young football players could attain higher level of achievement provided they were given proper training and greater exposure to competitions.

He said, in order to implement the effort, focus should be on identifying women’s talents at district level more actively before the divisional and state level.

The championship named after the Mohd Chee’s wife received the participation of ten women’s teams in the inaugural competition.
