SIBU: The Sarawak Veteran Armed Forces of Malaysian Association (PVTMS) held a swearing-in ceremony for committee members of the 2018-2021 sessions recently in a hotel in Sibu. Leading the swearing-in was the newly elected PVTMS president Francis Yeo Wan Hui.

The ceremony was officiated at by Nineth Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier-General Shamsirudin Mohd Shariff officiated at the ceremony. Also present was Sibu District deputy police chief Supt. Martin Khoo.

Shamsirudin stated his commitment and would ensure army personnel under his charge extend aid to the association in each of the programmes carried out by the association. He also said that the association is very important as a body or institution that will represent the veterans to voice their concerns to the relevant parties.

“Thus, I call on veterans who have yet to become members of the association to register as a member so that they would not be excluded to enjoy the welfare aid that the government has provided to veterans and any programmes they face they will be able to be taken into account and action by the government,” he said.

He therefore hoped that PVTMS will continue to advance in the future and remain a respected association not only in Sarawak but also throughout Malaysia.

Speaking as a new president of the association, Yeo hoped that newly-appointed committee members would be able to carry out the responsibility entrusted to them in safeguarding the welfare of the members.

He also hoped for full cooperation and support from the committees and members in raising funds for the association as the association did not get a fixed allowance from the government or any agency. He then hoped that PVTMS will continue to fight and move forward in the future.
