Giant grouper lands Ng RM20,000 cash

MIRI: A giant grouper weighing 61.68kg has brought good fortune to Ng Cher How of Singapore when he won the “10th Miri City International Deep Sea Fishing Competition” held here.

The competition organised by Miri Anglers Club (MOE), Ng beat 107 other anglers for the individual category to take home a cash prize of RM20,000.

Second place went to Leng Keng Ho who caught a grouper weighing 49.48kg, while third place was won by Doreen Ang, also a grouper weighing 46.54kg.

Both winners who came from Singapore each won a cash prize of RM6,000 and RM3,000 respectively.

Meanwhile, for the group category (consisting of three anglers), first place went to the team from Singapore with their total catch weighing 52.90 Kg hence winning a cash prize of RM5,000.

Runners-up were anglers from Miri who caught fishes weighing a total of 38.06 Kg to receive a cash prize of RM3,000.

Third place also went to Miri anglers which took home a cash prize of RM2,000 with a total catch weighing 33.68kg.

All the winners also received a certificate eachfrom organisers plus Shimano brand fishing equipment.

The participants left for sea on May 11 and returned on May 13.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin welcomed them on their arrival.
