GlassHaus Weekends x Borneo Bengkel this weekend

KUCHING: GlassHaus Weekends x Borneo Bengkel will take place this weekend, starting from today to Sunday (12 to 14 October, 2018).

Borneo Bengkel has not only curated a weekend of celebration in GlassHaus Weekends, but they will also be presenting an evening of extensively curated dialogue sessions for the public, in collaboration with Friends of Sarawak Museum (FoSM).

Part of the week-long creative experience, guests will discover the rich heritage of their homeland in this expedition of Sarawak culture.

They will begin with the central theme of ‘Memories, Meanings and Methods’ delivered in four 30 minute sessions on 12 of October from 7pm to 10pm.

Happening at HAUS KCH, this dialogue among anthropologists, craft specialists, activists and filmmakers, delves into their journey of discovering the indigenous groups in Borneo and how their rich culture is restored and brought back to life.

Among those speaking will include Louise Macul of FoSM, Dr Welyne J. Jehom of Rh. Gareh, Shaq Koyok who is an artivist from Peninsular Malaysia and Nadira Illana, a writer and filmmaker from Kota Kinabalu.

This weekend will also embrace the communal experience of sharing and collaboration, culminating in an array of creative workshops open to the diverse audience of Kuching, an engaging Tamu Art Market, and a thematic People of the Land Art Exhibition.

Each day will also end with cultural performances from local homegrown talents. Saturday will begin with performances by the soulful voices of Nading Rhapsody to the talented all-family act Pinanak Sentah, Momentum KCH will also be bringing you Open Mic Evenin’, where anyone who would like to present their music to a live audience.

Sunday’s session will close with the ambient fusions of Meruked, Sang Rawi’s majestic Nusantaran presence, and At Adau’s experimental world class rhythms.

Jointly organised by Catama Borneo and HAUS KCH, GlassHaus Weekends x Borneo Bengkel is a three-day event where HAUS KCH opens its doors to the public for an all-access interactive experience that follows this year’s Borneo Bengkel Creative Residency, which brought together masters of their craft from Borneo, Selangor and the UK.
