KUCHING: Gloria Corina Peter Tiwet, Director of the Foreign Ministry Sarawak Regional Office, hopes to inspire women in the state with her appointment as the first Dayak woman to be the new Malaysian High Commissioner to Nigeria.

“I am proud to contribute to the history of Sarawak,” she said during her courtesy call on the Minister of Welfare, Community WellBeing, Women, Family, and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah at Wisma Wanita here, yesterday.

In her speech, Gloria said there are not many women doing what she is doing, especially women from Sarawak.

“I hope more women in Sarawak will be empowered so that we can inspire other women and the future generations of Sarawak women to come.

“The journey has not been easy for me but every challenge that I faced had enriched me and made me a better person.

“With this responsibility, it is an honour to serve my state and country and I hope to inspire more women,” she said.

Meanwhile, Fatimah encouraged women in the state to further push boundaries and to achieve things that were thought to be impossible.

“You are the ones who break the glass ceiling and the ones that we look up to. And you are also the ones who break the barriers, which is inspiring to all of us,” said Fatimah.

Also present during the visit were PETROS Board of Director Datin Josephine Hilary Dom, Assistant Minister of Women, Family, and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus, and State Women and Family Department director Noriah Ahmad.
