KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is set to officially launch its party formation on July 22, which is also Sarawak’s Independence Day. This was announced by a technical committee chaired by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Secretary-General, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi at the party’s headquarters here yesterday.

The meeting was also attended by respective Secretary-Generals from the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) as well as other legal experts.

According to Nanta, the technical committee will be in charge, among others, to select a protem committee for the establishment of GPS, to design a new logo for the coalition, as well as to submit letters to the Dewan Rakyat to inform that the parties are no longer with the Barisan Nasional (BN) and another one to BN to express its gratitude for past cooperation.

“The protem committee will comprise eight members, namely, the Presidents and Secretary-Generals of the four component parties, PBB, PRS, PDP and SUPP. “We will have to work within the time frame. Rehearsal on the launching is also being worked out,” Nanta said. On June 12, the state government made the decision to leave BN and form GPS.
