KUCHING: The State government will not file the oil and gas case in High Court, said Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

“The State government will make their own decision and will continue to implement the Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO) 1958 beginning July 1,” she said, adding that the State does not need to listen to the advice of State Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen that the State should file O&G case in High Court.

She added that the Federal Court’s decision was sufficient for the State government to protect Sarawak’s rights as the motion filed by Petronas against the State was dismissed.

“With that, we can implement OMO and regulate the upstream activities within the boundaries of Sarawak,” she pointed out when met by reporter during Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri PBB Women and GPS Women at Dato’ Sri Fatimah Abdullah’s residence in Petra Jaya here yesterday.

Hasidah added that it was a success for the State which was a good and crucial decision.

“The two laws, Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 or OMO can still be reconciled, we can read it together in the interest of Sarawak. What we want is for Petronas to follow the State law which is a valid and good law.

“So now, Petronas can go into our state but they have to comply with the State’s OMO,” she stressed.
