KUCHING: The Tanah Putih Health Clinic at  Jalan Kwong Lee Bank here yesterday received brand  new furniture and wheelchairs  from the elected representatives of Democratic Action Party (DAP).

The donations comprised  plastic chairs (30 units), wheelchairs (4 units), conference room table (1 unit),  conference room chairs (10 units) and executive chairs (51 units).

Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament, Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen and Pending State Assemblywoman, Violet Yong delivered the items to the clinic yesterday.

Yii said  Tanah Putih Health Clinic was one of the historic clinics in Kuching. When he was a boy, he always came to the clinic.

“The building is old  and it had been neglected for many years under the previous government administration.

“We have seen that it  lacks basic equipment  such as wheelchairs, waiting chairs for patients, proper tables  for doctors and proper office chairs for the administrative staff and  doctors.

‘We visited clinics like this in Kuching  to find out the needs and  hear from the doctors and also the patients to see how we can help improve the quality of healthcare  provided.

He said the contributions were from  Violet Yong, himself, Padungan State Assemblyman, Wong King Wei and  Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Chong Chieng Jen.

Yii disclosed they had also secured donations for the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and  a few schools.

Meanwhile, Yong said  previously, they had donated wheelchairs to SGH.

On behalf of the  Tanah Putih Health Clinic, Medical Officer, Dr Nazarina  Ismail   thanked Yii and Yong for the contributions.

“A lot of the chairs are broken. So these will help a lot,”  she said.
