Hearing of Ling’s appeal set on Oct 18

KUCHING: The hearing of appeal by the wife of slain manager of Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Wong Jing Kui, Ling Hang Tsyr, who was sentenced to death by hanging after being found guilty of abetting in the killing of her husband six years ago, has been adjourned to October 18, 2018 by the Court of Appeal yesterday.

Court of Appeal judges, Iskandar Abang Hashim, Harmindar Singh Dhal iwal and Ravinthran N. Paramaguru announced this at Kuching High Court following judge Ravinthran’s decision to recuse himself from the case as he is also involved in the custody case of the Ling’s son. Lawyer, Roger Chin, representing the appellant, Ling, told reporters this outside the courtroom.

Besides Chin, Ling is also represented by lawyers, Lim Heng Choo and Steven Chia Sia. On June 14, 2012, Wong’s body was found in the master bedroom of his house at Ulu Sungai Merah, Sibu with over 20 stab wounds inflicted by a hired killer, Ling Hoe Ing.

Wong’s wife, Ling Hang Tsyr and her lover, Tiong King Guan were found guilty of abetting in Wong’s murder and were incarcerated in August 11, 2012. However, they were released on February 26, 2014.

Charges were reinstated in February, 2015 after an appeal was filed by the prosecution. Tiong was absent in court and is still missing. Meanwhile, Ling Hang Tsyr was sentenced to death by hanging and hired killer, Ling Hoe Ing was sentenced to 16 years in jail after pleading guilty on October 1, 2013. Yesterday in court, the victim’s family members were accompanied by watching brief lawyer, Christina Teng.
