KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ( KPDNKK) yesterday launched the Gawai Price Control Scheme 2017 at Servay Hypermarket, EG Mall here.

Its deputy minister, Dato’ Henry Sum Agong officiated at the launching ceremony before visiting the hypermarket.

The scheme, which is effective from yesterday to 2 June, 2017, aims to ensure that the prices of selected goods are controlled and not manipulated by those who wish to make profits from consumers.

“Our officers will monitor the situation and ensure that the supply of goods is sufficient and that no one sells them above the ceiling prices that have been set by the government.

“We will not hesitate to take action against anyone who doesn’t adhere to these rules,” he told a press conference before the launching ceremony.

Among the items listed under the scheme are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, chicken eggs (Grade A, B, and C respectively), chicken wings, imported round cabbage (from Indonesia and China, excluding Beijing Cabbage), garlic (China), live pig, and pork (belly and lean and fat respectively).

Traders are also required to display the special pink price tags for the selected goods to differentiate them from other goods.

Also present at the event were State KPDNKK Director, Datuk Stanley Tan and State KPDNKK Chief Enforcement Officer, Abdul Hafidz A Rahim.

Members of the public are urged to report any traders who don’t follow the rules by either calling 03-8000 8000 (1Malaysia One Call Centre) or the toll-free line at 1-800-886-800 or by sending e-mails to e-aduan@kpdnkk.gov.my or by reporting to any KPDNKK branch in the state.

Consumers and traders may visit www.kpdnkk.gov.my to check the prices of items as well as to know more.
