KUCHING: Homemade cakes and biscuits are now in a high demand and become a trending among our society especially during the festive seasons. When interviewed by New Sarawak Tribune, Nornasheila Zaidi, 28, a local home baker said for this year’s Christmas, she has received orders since middle of Nov.

“I stop receiving orders for my homemade cakes on Dec 18. The demands for my cakes have increased compare to previous year.

“Customers more likely to prefer half size cake rather than the full size,” she said, adding although the prices of goods in the market especially for cake ingredients are increased, her cake prices still maintain. “I maintain my selling prices same as last year and I still manage to earn some profit. “I choose not to increase my cake’s prices because I care about my customers,” she pointed out.

Nornasheila said the soft and moist texture of her homemade cakes was among the reason on why her customers preferred homemade cake compared to other cakes. Another home’s baker from Lundu and a full time housewife, Laila Ali, 24 said that she started to bake and sell homemade biscuits and cakes since 2014.

“I started with a small business in 2014 and now, the orders are increasing every year where I need to hire some workers to help me to achieve my sales target,” she said.

She s tated that al though the prices of raw material are increased, she still maintained her cakes and biscuits prices.

“Increasing the selling prices will just cause a burden for my customers. “Sometimes, I also rewarded my customer with hampers, if my sales target is achieved,” she explained, adding her customers always keep repeated their orders.
