KUCHING: Mahathir Salem, who is currently staying at Anjung Singgah here, received assistance from the Hope Place recently.

The one-off assistance in the form of rice, cooking oil, Milo, biscuits, noodles, salt, sugar, mattress, blanket and toiletries, was handed over to him by Hope Place Founder Kelvin Wan in the presence of Anjung Singgah Officer Lydia Liza Nelson Ansang.

According to Wan, Mahathir has stayed at Anjung Singgah since April this year and will be moving out soon.

“He will be moving out soon as Anjung Singgah has helped him to find a new job with a Telekom contractor company. Mahathir had nothing to start with and Anjung Singgah had contacted us to request for some help for him,” he said.

Hope Place is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that visits the poor as well as less-fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles.

Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month; hence they are grateful for the assistance delivered to them. For families caring for children with special needs, elderly or disabled individuals, the NGO provides milk powder, oats and disposable diapers as well.
