KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing hopes that Hornbill Skyways will take over the routes left behind by MASwings.

He was commenting on the decision made by MASwings to cease operations for six routes in Sabah and Sarawak by next year.

“These routes have to be taken by another airline and we thought Air Asia was the best choice but it is not very keen about it and needs further studies.

“Therefore, it has been suggested that our own airline takes over the routes and I think Hornbill Skyways is the best choice.

“But who ever replaces MASwings will be subsidised by the government to allow the rural areas to be accessed by air.

“We need to replace MASwings with another airline as we cannot leave the rural areas behind,” he told reporters at the State Legislative Assembly building here yesterday.
