Hotel room catches fire in Bintulu

KUCHING: A room inside a hotel at Jalan Tanjung Batu in Bintulu  caught fire on Wednesday afternoon.

It was believed that the fire broke out around 5.20pm on the 14th floor of the hotel.

Four firefighters in a fire engine and EMRS vehicle from Bintulu fire station led by Senior Fire Officer II Steven Plen rushed to scene, which was located 5km from the fire station, after being notified at 5.25pm. They were also assisted by five personnel from Samalaju fire station.

The blaze was put out by the firefighters using fire extinguishers. About 70 per cent of the room was destroyed in the incident.

No casualties or injuries were reported and the operation ended at 6.40pm.

The cause of the fire and estimated loss have yet to be ascertained.
