ICSE 2017 adopts one vital resolution among others

KUCHING: The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) 7 priorities areas, the Article 24 of the United Nation’s convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Education Agenda of 2030 Sustainable Development Goals 4 must be adhered and implemented  by stakeholders to ensure that educatiom access and engagement of children with disabilities are prioritised and implemented  for the betterment of lives of children with disabilities.

This is one of the resolutions adopted by the 650 participants of educators, administrators, field experts from the ASEAN countries and around the world at the just concluded 2nd International Conference on Special Education (ICSE 2017) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from 31 July to 2 August.

The other resolutions adopted are that inclusive education is the key to growth, respect and acceptance of diversity and differing abilities of all children.

It was also resoluted that parental advocacy and community awareness effort must be intensified to reduce discrimination and prejudices to pave ways and positive acceptance of persons with disabilities in the society.

The conference also resoluted that technical vocational education and training, innovation and ICT applications are important means for empowering the lives of people with disabilities and these means must be made available to them.

Disability awareness is also important for everyone and this must be seen as integral part of knowledge building and understanding therefore must be disseminated at all levels of societies and by all stakeholders.
