BETONG: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas describes Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as a “perfect platform for Sarawakians to do what needs to be done our own way and at a faster pace”.
“Our critics have often asked why we were not vocal when we were under the BN. My answer is BN then comprised 14 different political parties, we had to go by consensus on a lot of things,” said Uggah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president.
He said: “When we negotiated our development needs more often than not, we were overwhelmed by the majority decision.
“Now we are on our own, we decide on our own, in our own way and at a much faster pace.”
He said why GPS operates the way it does is because the coalition was formed with the prime objective of protecting the state’s rights and to restore those rights that had been eroded over a period of more than 50 years.
He said GPS allows Sarawak to chart out and expedite its own development plans and agenda.
“Our GPS government will prioritise the needs of the state and also the needs of the people,” he said during his visit to Rumah Hendary Jawan in Serudit Atas and Rumag Ruselie Ujih in Serudit Baroh yesterday.
He later announced a grant of RM200,000 to improve the Rumah Hendary Jawan drainage system and another RM20,000 for its Biro Wanita.
At Rh Ruselie Ujih he announced a grant of RM10,000 for the Parent-Teacher Association of SK Paku Sentral.
