While asked on the feedback of the Grand Margherita Hotel Kuching’s Christmas’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the first thing Hope Place’s founder, Kelvin Wan, said was, “Christmas is not just a festive season but also a time to show love.”

Which is evidently true as we witness the tradition of giving and sharing prominently throughout this season. The same goes for Grand Margherita Hotel as they organised an annual joint-event with the hotel’s Recreation Club, Hope Place Kuching and Matang Wildlife Centre.

The event saw the hotel’s lobby erected with a house made of gingerbread which is said to take a whole month to bake and build. Furthermore, with every RM 10 donation, the donors’ name will be decorated on the gingerbread ‘brick’ on the house.

Thus on December 12 at the hotel’s lobby, the Christmas charity Gingerbread House was lighted up to honour all the donors and sponsors that was involved in the fundraising campaign.

Among the organisations that have sponsored the Gingerbread House were Integrasi Sejagat Sdn Bhd, and O.J. Decor Services. The charity event main donors were Riverside Majestic Hotel Puteri Wing, Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing, Damai Beach Resort, Sara Resorts Sdn Bhd, Sara Urusharta Sdn Bhd, PT Aria Tours and Travel, Core System Technologies, BSM Vacation Marketing Sdn Bhd, Knightzircuit Promotion, Comfort Elevator and Aircond Engineering, Kolej Sunway Kuching, Midin Event Company, Budding Readers, Leo Distributor Sdn Bhd, Infinity Works Sdn Bhd, Putra Sentosa, Elegrand Gallery, Heineken Marketing Sdn Bhd, and Place Borneo Sdn Bhd.

For this year’s Gingerbread House, the Grand Margherita Hotel’s Recreation Club has successfully collected a sum of RM 10,000 and donated RM 5,000 each to Hope Place Kuching and Matang Wildlife Centre.

Grand Margherita Hotel General Manager Mok Pin Chuan said, “On behalf of Grand Margherita Hotel, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all donors and sponsors of our Christmas Charity Gingerbread House 2018. We truly appreciate your support and generous contribution in making our charity event a great success and memorable one.”

Speaking to Kelvin Wan, he expressed his gratitude to Grand Margherita in their effort to help the poor and needy under Hope Place. “Currently Hope Place has 180 families under us, and we need funds to help them.”

Since they are a non-governmental organisation, Hope Place at the moment relies solely on public donation. They also responds to disasters such as floods, home fires and others.

On the other hand, Matang Wildlife Centre Park Executive Modin Ambau praised the hotel for their good effort in helping the park to conserve nature. “We do need it, and we are grateful for it as the funds received will be used in conservation efforts of the orang utans and also our forest.”
