KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday received a courtesy visit by Dato’ Dr Afifi Al-Akiti of the Islamic Studies, Oxford University, United Kingdom at Demak Jaya.

The call was to inform Tun Taib on the 8th Conference of Nadwah Ulama Nusantara (NUN VIII) that had been held with success from 23 to 25 October at a leading hotel in Kuching.

NUN VIII was a conference whereby a number of working papers were presented by a various religious personnel with expertise in their own fields from Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Jakarta, Sulawesi, Palembang, Pontianak, Patani and from Semenanjung Malaysia as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

The conference touched on the empowerment of the ummah, the reinforcement and strengthening of akidah, dakwah, social values, issues on legal, economic, science and technology; plus widening the network of the ‘ulama nusantara’ and empowerment of Islamic management, especially ‘syiar Islam’ in the region.

Also present at the call was Deputy Rector of  Universiti Islam Fatoni, Southern Thailand Professor Dr.Ahmad Omar Chapakiya.
