KUCHING: Another three or four more Community Learning Centres (CLCs) will be set up in the state this year, said Indonesian Consul-General in Kuching, Jahar Gultom.
“Currently, there are 16 CLC operating throughout the state with a total of 981 students,” he said when met by the media after the 72nd Independence Day of Indonesia Republic celebration at Kuching Indonesian Consulate Office (KJRI), Jalan Stutong here, last Thursday.
He added that they have received a few applications from plantation companies on the setting up CLC at their plantation site. Hence, three or four CLC maybe set up this year.
“Now, there are about 2,500 Indonesian children in Sarawak but at some locations, there are only 5 to 10 children and to set up a CLC there must be a minimum number of students.
“And if we build one CLC at a location with only two or three students that would be very costly,” he said, adding that the consulate may plan to combine plantations which are near to each other to build a CLC.
“Another problem is that the plantations may belong to different companies so we are now thinking on how to gather the children from different companies into one CLC,” he said.
