Jamit hands out grants of RM189,000 to 25 NGOs

KAPIT: Bukit Goram Assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat presented out-right grants amounting to RM189,000 to 25 NGOs here comprising Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs), clubs and associations.

The handing-over ceremony was held at Meligai Hotel here yesterday morning.

The recipients were as follows: JKKK Semunjan Tengah Belawai (RM7,500); JKKK Semunjan Ulu Belawai (RM10,000); JKKK Emperan Tapang Belawai (RM3,000); JKKK Nanga Belawai (RM4,500); JKKKK Nanga Semunjan Belawai (RM4,500); JKKK Nanga Senyaro Belawai (RM7,500); JKKK Semunjan Ili Belawai (RM7,000); JKKK Semunjan Tengah (RM3,500); JKKK Nanga Paku Belawai (RM7,500); JKKK Nanga Selangkie Kapit (RM3,500); JKKK Nanga Sepayang Belawai (RM5,000); JKKK Nanga Sepudun Belawai (RM5,500); JKKK Nanga Terusa Belawai (RM13,500); JKKK Sekarangan Atas Belawai (RM10,500); JKKK Sekarangan Baruh Belawai (RM9,000); JKKK Sekarangan Tengah Belawai (RM10,000); Women Wing United Chinese Association Kapit (RM3,000); Maksak Bahagian Kapit (RM10,000); Malaysian Red Crescent Kapit Chapter (RM10,000); Kelab Sosial Jabatan Penerangan Daerah Kapit (RM10,000); JKKK Kampung Melatai (RM10,000); KRT Kawasan Selatan Kapit (RM5,000); Kelab Sukan Rekreasi Bermotorsikal Terasang (RM6,000); MPUB Bahagian Kapit (RM20,000) and JKB Masyarakat Cina Kapit (RM3,000).

Present together to witness the function were Administrative Officer Kapit Resident Office Nium Nawin, Kapit Information Officer Garai Entili, JASA Officer Mohd MatanYok, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi’s Special Affairs Officer Ambrose Abong Bugek, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Sadia Kapit Chairman Edward Manggah and Pemanca Yong Thu Fook.

In his speech, Jamit said the grants were as requested by the various applicants with some of them distributed earlier and this is the final batch amounting to RM189,000 for 25 recipients.

On the procedure for the out-right grants, he explained that when applicants forwarded their request for fund, he would key in online for consideration. Once approved according to the guidelines, the cheques would be issued. Should there be a change of name in the recipient, the cheque might have to be re-issued and this would take time.

He hoped that the recipients would make use of the grant wisely.

“As elected representatives, we are accountable for the grant that we disbursed and I have established a system whereby every cheque received is attached with a government circular on the declaration of the proper use of the grant.

“Whoever receives the grant need to utilise it properly. It depends on your honesty and burden of prove to be accountable for the grant and to spent it wisely,” he said.

Jamit advised the recipients to inform their subordinates of the grant so that they would know how much money was given to them.

On the next general election, he called on the people to rally their full support behind the incumbent BN candidate, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi in defending his Kapit parliamentary seat.
