KAPIT: Bukit Goram State Assemblyman, Jefferson Jamit Unyat reminded the longhouse community of Rumah Rolland Bangau in Sungai Tisa to continue supporting GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) by staying with the party.

“I appeal to you to remain as strong supporters of GPS under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

“People living in the rural areas must make a wise decision to vote for the ‘wakil rakyat’ who can deliver and serve them. “I represent the state government and my track record has proven that I am committed to serve you to the best of my abilities,” he said.

At the same time, he also warned the longhouse folks to be vigilant towards those who come to the longhouse to ask for their support as at the end of the day, they could not help the longhouse communities in their need and thirst for infrastructure development. “As far as development projects are concerned, all of them are from the GPS government,” he said.

Jamit said this when officiating the revival of the ‘Tagang System’ for the longhouse community at Rumah Rolland Bangau in Sungai Tisa on Monday, accompanied by Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail. He said that by reviving the inland river conservation project, he has fulfilled the promise that he has made to the community.

The ‘Tagang Sytem’ was launched previously in 2004 but was put to a halt due to logging activities along Sungai Tisa. Jamit also hoped to revive the homestay programme at Rumah Rolland Bangau as one of the economic activities for the residents to supplement their income.

In addition to the revival of the ‘Tagang System’, Jamit had announced a collective grant of RM75,000 for 15 families in the longhouse to repair their roofs; the funds came from Kapit Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi. He also announced grants of RM5,000 each for Rumah Rolland Bangau, Rumah Lapik, Rumah Mathew Bina, and Rumah Austin under his minor rural project (MRP).
