Jamit visits Kapit Express Passenger Terminal

KAPIT: Bukit Goram State Assemblyman,   Jefferson Jamit Unyat visited the Kapit Express Passenger Terminal here on Saturday afternoon to see the traffic flow (boarding and arrival) of passengers here in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration.Gawai Dayak falls on June 1.

At the terminal, Jamit met  enforcement officers from the Sarawak Rivers’ Board (SRB), Marine, Police and RELA.

The chief coordinator of the various state government agencies, SRB chief, Enforcement Officer Zehegkiel Piree briefed Jamit on the Standard Of Operation (SOP) during the current “Ops Selamat Gawai Dayak” held from May 25 – 31.

To ensure the smooth flow of river traffic, SRB has deployed 27 enforcement staff and two riverine patrol boats to conduct random checks on the public transport together with seven Marine staff, four police personnel and nine RELA members. They are stationed at Kapit Terminal, Kapit-Belaga Wharf, Nanga Mujong, Baleh, Song Terminal and Belaga Wharf.

The “Ops Selamat Gawai Dayak” is to ensure the safety of commuters using river transport and prevent mishaps during the current festive season. 

Piree explained that the patrol boats would be plying between Kapit and Song as well as Kapit and Mujong to ensure no boats were overloaded with passengers.
