KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is confident that under the leadership of Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak will continue to flourish and grow towards greater heights.
“I am confident that Sarawak will be able to achieve the status of a highly-developed and high-income state by the year 2030 as the state is on the right track towards a better future,” he said during the opening of the Special State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Third Meeting for the Second Term in conjunction with the 150th DUN anniversary here yesterday.
“The government’s commitment in prioritising the needs of the people in its development plans is an important step in sketching out the economic landscape that is both progressive and sustainable.
“I believe that the economy will be catapulted to greater heights thanks to the digital economy initiative that will provide a new dimension to the state’s economical activities.
“This initiative clearly shows his (Johari’s) leadership capabilities which are both long-term and self-aware in nature,” revealed Taib.
The former Chief Minister added that the digital economy would open up many opportunities for the younger generation to be involved in entrepreneurship.
“I am sure that our youths are creative and innovative enough to meet the needs of the digital era and are capable of creating a name for themselves at the international level.
“Therefore, I advise them to seize any opportunities provided by the government to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills relevant to current technology,” he said.
At the same time, he applauded the approaches taken by Johari, such as establishing the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS), Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) and the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).
“Everything that has been planned, has to be in-line with the needs of the people regardless of their race, religion or cultural background,” said the Head of State.
