Johari retains Saberkas President post

KUCHING: Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg has retained his post as the President of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) while Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sports and Youth, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was appointed as the new Deputy President.

The news was announced during the Saberkas Gala Dinner held at Hilton Hotel here. Former Saberkas Deputy President, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said that both Johari and Karim won uncontested during the Saberkas Triennial General Meeting.

At the TGM, four Vice Presidents also won uncontested; they were Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Layar State Assemblyman, Gerald Rentap Jabu and Telamg Usan State Assemblyman,, Dennis Ngau. On top of that, Bukit Semuja State Assemblyman, John Ilus was chosen to be one of 25 committee members of the organisation as he received 158 votes.

Other new committee members included Dr Simon Sinang Bada (166 votes), Awangku Jinal Abedin Pg Hj Jawa (163 votes), Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi (161 votes), Roystone Valentine (161 votes) and Dato Ahmad Dato Sri Ibrahim (150 votes).

Johari also announced that the Assistant Minister of Corporate Af fai rs, Abdul lah Saidol as the new Secretary General of Ssberkas; the post was previously held by Rahman. “There is a good racial composition in the line-up of the committee this time. “I would like to express my gratitude to the previous committee members who gave way to our younger leaders,” added the Chief Minister.
