Julaihi: Batang Lupar Bridge will be built

SEBUYAU: The state government will to build the Batang Lupar Bridge and is now waiting for the “cost-sharing” response from the new government at the federal level.

Assistant Minister of Coastal Road, Datuk Julaihi Narawi said this in his speech during the Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institute Friendly Programme (PPWS) with Leaders organised by PPWS District Sebuyau here last Saturday.

He explained that the previous federal government had agreed to bear 50 per cent of the cost of building the bridge while the state government would pay for the balance.

“The Sarawak government wants this bridge to be built as it is the most strategic bridge on the coastal road that must be built.” Julaihi, who is also Sebuyau State Assemblyman, hoped that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government was aware of its responsibilities to help the people.

He added: “Sungai Samarahan already has a bridge, Batang Sadong has its own bridge and Batang Lupar, the largest river in Sarawak, must have a bridge.”

Earlier, Julaihi said PPWS District Sebuyau now had 42 branches with 1,800 people since its inception in Sebuyau in 1996.

According to him, the increasing membership of the association shows that women in the rural areas are joining other partners to contribute to the development of women in the state as a whole. He said he would make sure Sebuyau District PPWS have a new building in Sebuyau’s new town which was being planned.

Julaihi al so announced a RM30,000 MRP grant to Sebuyau District PPWS during the event which was attended by Sebuyau District PPWS Chairman, Julia Ahmad and SAO Sebuyau, Ajis Ahmad.
