KAPIT : Kapit police believed that they have smashed a gang involved in a series of house-breaking and theft in and around Kapit following the arrest of seven suspects in a number of successful raids conducted at various spots in and around Kapit, following tip-offs from members of the public recently.

At the press conference held at Kapit Police Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, Kapit Police Chief , DSP Freddy Bian, disclosed that acting on public tipoffs, police acted and successfully recovered stolen items and picked up seven suspects who are now in police custody pending investigation for house-breaking and theft.

He said the raiding team was led by CID officer-in-charge, ASP Makkaranu, Inspector Ugendran A/L Nesaratnam and Inspector Isan Sari. Among the recovered items were one shotgun, two water pumps, one chainsaw, one cutter, one outboat engine, three boxes of weed killer and one television set. All the seven suspects, aged 18 to 45 years old, were detained by the police to facilitate investigation. One of them was a woman.

Freddy advised members of the public to prioritise the safety of their property and belonging. “Take precautionary measures to deter would be thief. Look after your property properly. If you are not around, lock the door and at nightfall switch on the light.

If you are not home or on holiday, ask your neighbour to keep an eye on your house and at the same time inform the police so that MPV (mobile police vehicle) could be dispatched to patrol the area”, advised Freddy.
